This is a complete, original, VERY solid copy. The cover is tightly attached at both staples. Paper is supple, solid, and still showing its strength. Cover ink strike is very deep, and looks almost dripping wet. Gloss is truly remarkable. This copy has rarely seen the light of day and felt the mitts of man.

In 2013 this copy was carefully removed from a bound volume containing this and the first 9 issues of ASM by a well-known west coast dealer who has been buying and selling comic books since the early 70s. All issues appear to have been compiled directly from original print runs and bound directly into a single, hardcover untrimmed volume. As a result, this copy has never been racked or thumbed at a newsstand but has benefited from tight, flat storage for decades, with no light exposure. It appears to have been rarely, if ever, read. During removal from the volume, a small amount of binding glue has caused ink loss along the spine, as shown, but no glue remains and the spine is not split. The spine does have a 1/4” chip approx. 1” from the bottom that does not affect the stapling. Four small thread holes, used for the binding twine, can be seen passing through the entire book at approx. 1/4” to the right of the spine. The book width measures 6.875” at top and 6.75” at bottom, with typical marvel chipping to the cover; inclusion with 9 other untrimmed issues and the slight fanning of the edge leaves from top, as well as detailed analysis against issues of the era, provide ample evidence that this issue has a 1/8” angular bias to its cut at press, with no after-market trimming.

The defects noted above keep this issue from otherwise being pristine. The accumulated merits in condition, including its overall flatness, staggeringly fresh ink strike, and absence of reader’s marks or handling stress, make this a highly desirable, crisp raw copy of the greatest silver age key of them all. Have a look at  slabbed VG/FN copies in the rare instance they come to market, and you will see that this is a very reasonable price for this stunning copy.
